{"id":259,"date":"2014-09-26T14:37:35","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T21:37:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.turningplanet.org\/blog\/?p=259"},"modified":"2017-09-27T12:11:41","modified_gmt":"2017-09-27T19:11:41","slug":"an-ordinary-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.turningplanet.org\/blog\/an-ordinary-day\/","title":{"rendered":"An Ordinary Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>A poem for Flood Wall Street and the People\u2019s Climate March<br \/>\nSeptember 21-22, 2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today<br \/>\nI\u2019m staying<br \/>\nin my pajamas<br \/>\nbecause I can.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m curling<br \/>\nback in bed with<br \/>\nmy computer<br \/>\nand checking Facebook,<br \/>\nnot one time,<br \/>\nnot two times,<br \/>\nbut <em>eighteen<\/em> times<br \/>\nwhile my children are at school.<\/p>\n<p>I might bake cookies.<br \/>\nI might go back to sleep.<br \/>\nI might type<br \/>\n\u201cGaza\u201d<br \/>\nand \u201cclimate\u201d<br \/>\ninto my Google bar and<br \/>\nsee how things I care<br \/>\nabout connect.<br \/>\nYou know\u2014<br \/>\nstretch my mind,<br \/>\nand not my body.<\/p>\n<p>Or<br \/>\nI might sit<br \/>\non the front step.<br \/>\nListen to the chainsaws<br \/>\ncomplain about fire-prone firs,<br \/>\nwatch the naked shapes of cardboard<br \/>\ncookies for hard-scrabble birds<br \/>\ndance<br \/>\non manzanita<br \/>\nin the morning wind\u2026<br \/>\nand then the afternoon wind\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>I might wonder when the rain\u2019s coming,<br \/>\nand then begin<br \/>\nto dance<br \/>\nmyself,<br \/>\nthinking of the vibrant<br \/>\nhum of humans<br \/>\nrising from New York,<br \/>\n<em>two thousand nine hundred thirteen<\/em><br \/>\nmiles away.<\/p>\n<p>I think<br \/>\nI\u2019ll imagine<br \/>\nwalking with them<br \/>\ntoday.
